A Special Announcement from Papercut’s Resident DJJust for Fun
Here at Papercut, we love listening to music in the office while we work, whether it’s something from my starred list on Spotify, a playlist I’ve carefully selected, or just a silly Friday jams list that everyone at the office and myself have pitched in on. We all love our office jams, but even more so… I love picking the tunes for my friends.
My spot as resident DJ started back when I began working with Papercut in October of 2012. In the beginning, my music choices were just an array of my favorite songs and artists. Those picks not only made my day a little happier but were also things that others could easily listen to, and more importantly, enjoy.
You wouldn’t believe the range of genres that my Spotify account has seen. Take a dash of Motown and punk, throw in some 80s pop, a few obscure bands here and there, and you’ve got something great. There’s really no inspiration behind my playlists other than the mood I was in at the time, and sometimes, the mood I wanted to put the office in. As for naming them, I prefer using plays on words. It may seem a little silly to everyone else, but it’s the “icing on the cake” for me.
Enter Papercut Cuts
But enough about my playlist making. Let’s talk a bit about Papercut Cuts. This whole idea started organically enough, I believe in a production meeting, as sort of a joke or silly take on our office playlists. It’s more of an opportunity for me, as the office DJ, to take requests and mix them in with some of my own favorites to create a well-rounded playlist that everyone can enjoy. So far, we’ve created several of these, mostly on Fridays, and we thought it would be fun to share our newest playlists here on the blog. The playlist names have ranged from “Old but Gold” to “Totes Eighties.” I’m sure you can guess the types of music on those two. Anyway, it really livens things up in here. All the girls will sing along, and some will dance around a bit (Ashley), while others just wear a grin on their faces.
So as part of my contribution to Papercut Cuts, I’ve whipped up a couple of playlists that I’d like to share. Hopefully this will be the start of many playlists to come, so long as someone (ahem, Amanda) is up to the challenge. I realize that I’m setting the bar a little high by doing two at once, but one just didn’t seem sufficient. Because, you see, these are farewell playlists. I am leaving the Papercut crew this week to pursue new endeavors in the Big Apple. It’s bittersweet. I’m excited for new adventures, but the time I’ve had here has been so meaningful and worthwhile. The Papercut team is a really great one. I’m lucky to have gotten to spend almost two years with them.
Bearing that in mind, these playlists aren’t sad. They’re more of a lulling, happy, sentimental grouping of songs. For the first one, I really wanted to make it like our typical fun Friday, with a few more downs than ups. For the second, I wanted it to be something that resonated more from my personal taste.
So, please enjoy Good Pie and Smiles Required. And until the next time...
Farewell, adieu, goodbye.
